About me
l provide a safe space for you to explore your difficulties whilst feeling supported.
Dr Jo Allen | Cpsychol | DClinPsy | MSc | BSc (Hons)
I have extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families that have a diverse range of issues, including anxiety, depression, bipolar, relationship difficulties, fertility, panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosis, trauma, abuse, couples conflict, and self-esteem.
I have been in clinical practice since 2005, and I currently combine working in the NHS in adult mental health with private practice.
I have a lead role within the British Psychological Society, co-chairing the faculty of complex mental health, which provides training and guidance for practitioners in adult services. I am also a supervisor and teacher of systemic practice, family work, and other psychological approaches.
I have training in CBT, particularly third-wave therapies such as acceptance and commitment therapy, compassion-focused therapy, and mindfulness. I have an additional qualification in family, couples, and systemic psychotherapy. This has encouraged me to think about systems and relationships and use creative ways of working to understand and support change for people.
My approach
I will provide a safe space for you to explore your difficulties while feeling supported. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy, working together towards the change you want. This can be either for an agreed period of time or for longer periods as required.
My systemic qualifications and work with families have provided specific skills in exploring relationships, understanding the impact of family and relationships on individuals, and learning ways to cope with the complexity of life. I will offer different exercises and strategies to help you make sense of difficult experiences and move forward with managing your thoughts and emotions.
I value compassionate ways of working to empower people to take charge of their own lives. My training allows different ways of working, from structured approaches to more explorative, creative approaches. I tailor my approach to each individual I see.
